Bears 59. Panthers 37. Hulk Smash!
Most points in Bears’ opener history.
I could literally dissect this game for a month straight, so I’ll simply give quick bullet points and relay the MASSIVE amount of info about the opener.
The Great. Caleb, Swift, Monangai.
The Good. Oline, WR blocking, forcing TOs.
The Bad. JJ looked old. Did Dayo, Jarret and Booker even suit up? Stevenson got abused.
The UGLY. Entire D. Santos kickoffs. That 4rth down attempt from own side of field. 12 Penalties!

Twitter facts.
Chicago’s 59 points scored are tied with the 2019 Ravens, 1968 Cowboys and 1963 Chiefs for the second-most points scored in a season-opening game all-time, trailing only the 1973 Falcons, who scored 62. The Bears’ six rushing touchdowns today tied the 1920 Detroit Heralds, 1920 Rock Island Independents and the 1922 Canton Bulldogs for the most in a season opening game in NFL history.

#Bears QB Caleb Williams in Week 1 vs. the Panthers:
- 21-for-29 (72.4% completion)
- 269 passing yards
- 2 passing TDs, no INTs
- 124.1 passer rating
- 9.3 yards per attempt
- 10 runs for 65 yards, 2 TDs
Unreal.
Butch note. Caleb only had like maybe 3 actual ‘off’ throws, #1 being when he threw behind a wide open Loveland on a cross. The rest of the incompletions though were smart throw ways, hail mary, or putting it in a spot where only his receiver had a chance. In other words, Caleb was extremely accurate.
And this is what I wanted for Caleb. I would’ve been happy with a 63% with the same production or greater. Ben Johnson was the one who wanted 70% last season, and this yr. Nobody wants Dalton, Hoyer, or Maye vs SEA small ball. But a higher comp% simply translates to more efficiency, more first downs, more TDs, WINS.
I’m glad Drew Brees, the king of efficiency, called the game cuz he said as much. He also said that hitting about that is really only like 3 more completions per game, but they add up to make a difference. Caleb will never be Dalton. He’s not captain checkdown. He’s a big-game hunter, thus despite many of his passes completed in that 5-10 range, Caleb was still looking down field targeting the kill.

To put the cherry on top, the Puke lost to the lowly Vikings and Wentz! They cheap-shotted Murray, and he may be out vs Bears this week, but more on that later. Insert Cartman licking tears…
Puke have now lost their last 6 games while the Loins BARELY escaped a loss to lowly Saints. This just in. The Puke still suck!
OT.
It SEEMS like the Bears avoided major injuries, but we’ll get updated on that Mon morning.
Sure, Herbert may be the biggest choker of all time, but hey, he’s a winner in life!
