    NFL Season ’26 Nearing

Can you believe it – NFL Season is here? No more goooooaaalllls for another 4 years. You’re welcome.

    Well, unless it’s Field Gooooooooaaaallls.

Solipsism (from Latin solus “alone” + ipse “self”) is the philosophical position that only one’s own mind is certain to exist, and that knowledge of anything outside it — the external world, other minds — is uncertain or impossible. It is an extreme form of subjective idealism/subjectivism, and it is essentially unfalsifiable, which is why few philosophers have seriously defended it as a final doctrine.

Epistemological solipsism (the most common form): we can only know our own mental states; the external world and other minds are unverifiable.

Descartes was staring intently at a candle in the dark, imagining that some grand demon has created his entire reality, that it is really all just a trick, and that ‘love’, ‘goodness’ and ‘truth’ only exist to increase, not allay, his suffering.

He desperately searched for an ‘objective’ source to pull him out of this rabbit hole – but couldn’t.

Then, eureka! “I doubt, therefore, I exist.”

That seemed to prove to the mathematician that doubt, and thought, shatters the hologram.

Of course it doesn’t since even GTA Programmers can input ‘doubt’ into their characters now.

“So what does this have to do with football?” – glad you asked.
Sometimes we as Bear fans get tunnel vision and fall into our own sports solipsism – as such sometimes we need to survey the entire NFL to get perspective.

What I learned. LOTS of teams are dealing with issues – in our own division alone, Lions are missing BOTH safeties, plus maybe a CB. No Jacobs for GB for who knows how long – could miss 1 or 17 games, and oh, Micah Parsons on PUP, so he’s missing 4 games min. Meanwhile “Nine” is gone and Vikings must rely on Kyler Murray. Yikes.

I’ll likely do a proper ‘Bears @ Panthers‘ game preview, but for now, here’s a snippet.

So, I’ll tell a ‘spicy’ anecdote.

My friends and I were in Vegas, and naturally hit a buffet. Well, the buffet served a plethora of cuisine, including sushi.
“I never ate sushi” my friend admits.
“Can’t believe you never had sushi! Ok, well, this isn’t ideal place, but get yourself a plate.”
“I don’t know how to eat it.” He contiues.
“It’s not that hard. Just get a plate, and a bit of everything you see around it.”

So he does, then returns with sushi and a hill of Wasabi.

“Ok, just throw some soy sauce, maybe that strip of ginger, and smear some of that green stuff on.”

    “What’s the green stuff?”
“It’s like Japanese guacamole but spicier”.

So, he preps, starts eating, then notices me and my 3 friends staring at him, smirking.

    “What?”

Then it happens. He starts turning RED, bleary eyed, opening mouth, trying to fan it, reaches for ice cold water, which apparently only makes it WORSE [hence the milk for Caleb].

He has to get up. He doesn’t know what to do. Should he run to the restroom, throw up, pass out…

Meanwhile we were laughing our asses off.
Still good friends, and from time to time, I ask, “Hey, you have any of that Japanese guac?”
